Rob Westall has teamed up with Phantom of the Opera star Katy Treharne to write and record a new version of ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ for UCB2.

Rob is one of several Christian artists to have been invited to record a Christmas carol for the station’s ‘Advent for Worship’ programmes.

“I love Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” said Rob, “but always thought it odd that the first line of the song says ‘listen to the angels sing’ before you hear any form of singing whatsoever.

“I was challenged to write some new parts for the carol and thought wouldn't it be great to hear some angelic choral singing at the start of the song which could then be used as a bridge to help people worship.

“I literally had a week to sort it all out so I gave Katy a call, explained the idea and we’ve come up with a stunning arrangement I can’t wait for people to hear. Steve Quantick added some awesome guitar tracks for us too and I arranged the strings with Gary White.”

Hark the heralds angels sing (Hallelujah) will air on UCB2 on December 23rd at 18.15 GMT and on a special Christmas Day broadcast. But you’ll have to wait until November 2021 to get your hands on a copy, where Rob plans to release it as part of his Christmas EP/Album.
